My Mental Massage

Just because Thanksgiving Day has passed, there’s no reason to stop being grateful……..

Something that has brought a positive change in my life recently has been the practice of turning negative statements around and finding something in the circumstance for which to be grateful.

“I am thankful for my 11 year old – PRE -teen-ager who complained about doing dishes BEFORE he left to go with his dad, because that means he is at home, not out on the streets somewhere.

“I am thankful for the taxes that I pay, because it means that I’m employed. “I am thankful for the mess I have to clean up at my house, because it means I’m more fortunate than thousands of people around the world. I have a home.

“I am thankful for the clothes that fit a little too snugly, because it means I have plenty to eat. “I’m thankful for my shadow that watches me work, because it means I’m outside in the sunshine. “I am thankful for my mother’s house SMELLING HORRIBLE of cooking gizzards..chitlings etc… because that means that she is STILL ALIVE to drive me insane of eating these nasty things and making my clothes stink” LOL

“I’m thankful for my oldest son who is in college being moody over the last few weeks but he makes me smile everytime he CHOOSES to text and call me. Also for my daughter being even MORE moodier but smiles when she emails me.

“I’m thankful for all the complaining about government and politics, because it reminds me I live in a country that allows me freedom of speech. “I’m thankful for the parking spot I found all the way at the end of the lot, because it means I have the strength and ability to walk the distance.

“I’m thankful for my heating bill, because it means I am warm. “I’m thankful for the lady behind me in church who sings off-key, because it means I am blessed with the gift of hearing. “I’m thankful for the pile of laundry that reminds me that I — and my family — have plenty of clothes to wear.

“I’m thankful for weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I’m capable of working hard and making a contribution to the lives of others. “I’m thankful each day when the alarm goes off, and I hear it, because it means I’m still alive. There is still time to serve God and others. There are still opportunities to make a difference.

“Each day is a gift. Each burden holds a blessing, and every moment of life offers an opportunity that will come only once in a lifetime.

“I am thankful — just because — I am.”

It is fascinating to hear stories of people who have survived tragic events.  Someone makes it out alive of a landslide. Someone survives a crash. Someone survives after days at sea.  We are never promised to come out alive, but we can know survival in our hearts if we trust Jesus. There is spiritual survival for the believer. How can we survive in the storms of life?

The disciples were told to go over to the other side in Mark 4:35. Jesus was with them in the ship. They did not know, but their survival was due to the fact of the presence of Jesus in their vessel. How can we  experience peace in the storms? The answer is simple, we must have Jesus on board.

Many people are uncomfortable with Jesus in their ship.  Many people want to run their own ship. They don’t want to answer to the Captain, they don’t want to take orders, they want to be at the helm and chart their own course. SURVIVAL……HOW CAN WE SURVIVE in the year 2013?

How can we endure through the storms of this up-coming new year of 2014?  How can we survive the temptations to quit our faith?  How can we survive the pressures of everyday life?  How can we survive family members in disarray? How can we survive in a stormy marriage?  How can we survive criticism?  How can we survive the bad news we will get this year?   If YOU ARE  hoping to go through life without pressure, without criticism, without temptations, without bad news, without tragedy, then you are living on FANTASY ISLAND.

TO SURVIVE…..WE MUST KNOW THAT JESUS IS ON BOARD OUR SHIP. I hope every person has ask Jesus to be the captain of their lives. There are numerous ADVANTAGES OF HAVING JESUS ON BOARD!!!!

WE HAVE PURPOSE.   In Jesus, I know why I’m here!

A Female “Jim Crow”……

pastor makeda pennycooke via facebook

This story has LITERALLY floored me this evening…. I mean really? Some black folk kill me with their LACK of respect of their own identity – It is a SAD DAY in America with it being 2013 and this JIM CROW Black Woman acting like this!

An African North Carolina pastor is facing backlash after she requested “only  white people” work as greeters at the church she leads. This woman has a smile on her face but her mind and intentions toward her own race CLEARLY says something different.

In an email, Pastor Makeda Pennycooke of Freedom House in Charlotte said  “first impressions matter,” and the church wants “the best of the best on the  front doors.”

“We anticipate having an increase in the number of people visiting and  attending Freedom House over the next few weeks,” she wrote. “We are continuing to work to bring our racial  demographic pendulum back to mid-line, so we would like to ask that only white  people be on the front doors.”

The church said the pastor apologized, and released a full statement that  said Pennycooke was writing because “the greeting team was no longer reflecting  the racial diversity of our entire congregation.”

“She made an error in judgment in requesting all white greeters at the front  door, going overboard in placing emphasis on any one race over another in trying  to highlight diversity within the greeting team,” the statement continued. “She  admits this was a grave lapse in judgment and is sincerely sorry for her  actions.”

I bet this AFRICAN AMERICAN PASTOR ….had a POOR lapse in judgement but I do NOT feel that she is sorry – She is sorry that the members of her church told the media about!

Never thought I would see a BLACK …Jim Crow ..ESPECIALLY in the “form of” a Pastor! This country is full of surprises!

A book by Neil T. Anderson provided 12 steps to forgiveness……….

1. Ask the Lord to reveal to your mind people you need to forgive.
2. Acknowledge the hurt and the hate.
3. Understand the significance of the Cross.
4. Decide you will bear the burden of each person’s sin (see Galatians 6:1,2). This means you will not retaliate in the future by using the information about their sin against them.
5. Decide to forgive.
6. Take your list to God and pray the following: “I forgive (name) for (list all the offenses and how they made you feel).”
7. Destroy the list.
8. Do not expect that your decision to forgive will result in major changes in the other persons.
9. Try to understand the people you have forgiven, but don’t rationalize their behavior.
10. Expect positive results of forgiveness in you.
11. Thank God for the lessons you have learned and the maturity you have gained as a result of the offenses and your decision to forgive the offenders.
12. Be sure to accept your part of the blame for the offenses you suffered.
