Copycat Maybe?

The Following intertitle.png

There has been a show that I started watching called The Following. I first  like any other show although it was on Season 2 and I felt that I was too behind to catch up, I thought that  may be watching for recreational time would “suffice”. However after the 2nd episode, the Lord indeed showed me that it was for a purpose.

The show has a great story line because it is really based upon how a CULT in 2014 could happen – how it obtains its followers, how the leader manipulates existing followers to recruit new followers.

It comes on EST on Mondays at  9pm on FOX – with Kevin Bacon – there are certain parts that I would call my son Jared in to watch with me and as a scene would happen, I would quickly explain to him how it happened and what he should do in an instance like this etc.

From things happening at restaurants, bus stops and most importantly school settings – Which comes to the point of this blog post –  On a scale from 1 to 10 my son’s current school district is considered an “7.75” and the next town over is a  “8.5 ”  so of course wanting my son to obtain a BETTER education I was pondering on a few things.

However, this morning in a “neighboring” school district that I have been contemplated moving into for the last year has had a tragic morning – I INDEED believe that this HORRIFIC incident that transpired was connected to the TV show, The Following –  I am NOT saying that the high school student was apart of a cult but “spiritually speaking”…….. you have to watch just only one episode of the show in regards to what happened to see what I am saying.

Letting Go Daily –

image

I am learning that as my son is getting OLDER …… I have to let him go day by day via treating him like he will NEVER leave the house!  Only a few more years left and I will be saying >>> SEE YA LATER BUDDY BOY!! ( hiding my tears )

The toughest thing about being a parent (or a teacher) is learning when NOT to be one. You don’t have to take my word for it, just ask Marlon. (The mivie Finding Nemo ) His wife was brutally attacked and killed by a man-eating barracuda, thrusting him into the role of a “single dad.” Now we know that in AMERICA there are more single mothers than single fathers. Not discounting single dads at all but ……….. ( LOL )

Although only an animation film, “Finding Nemo” portrays the real life struggles many parents face in “letting go of their children.” I have to say that I have been doing great though….. He has been finding new things to do with his life and his SELF lately…just look at this CRAZY hair cut that HE WANTED!! Inside I was screaming like, baby this isn’t you, is it?

As in real life, most parents (and children) don’t see the potential dangers of a parent being overprotective. And it’s easy to understand why many parents would respond the way Marlon did. Growing up in an inner city ghetto myself, there were many barracudas waiting to devour me.

Like most children, Nemo became very upset with his “loving” father’s obsession with protecting him from unforeseen danger. During one heated exchanged, Nemo uttered the phrase that strikes fear in the heart of every parent, “I hate you.” As a result of his father’s controlling behavior, Nemo intentionally rebels against his father and is consequently “fish-napped” by a diver.

I am letting my son go DAILY…… Keep him grounded in Godly principles and heavily involved and push him even at times when I know that pushing him / teaching him to do MORE will allow him to depend on me LESS. That is a good thing but the love of a mother is something ferocious!  My son calls me MOMMA BEAR because when someone bothers him – a whole NEW PERSON “comes over me”….. LOL I get into a mode that I will crush anything in my when it comes to protecting my son…. ( in a diplomatic and lady like way of course – lol )

I am proud of myself…for “choosing” to start MY PROCESS of letting go daily while he is young. As a parent, you cannot start trying to cope that your child is going to be moving out of the house when they are GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL! You do know that is WAY too late right? LOL

Why My 11 Year Old DOES NOT Play Football

JaleelJaleel Gipson was taken off life support following a tragic football injury. (Facebook)

Jaleel Gipson,#33, died after a tragic injury suffered in a Spring tackle drill

A  high school junior, Gipson was lined up as a running back on the play that left him injured. While carrying the ball, he was hit in a traditional shoulder-on-shoulder tackle. Instead of bouncing back up, Gipson couldn’t raise himself from the ground. An athletic trainer was on site and attended to Gipson immediately while the team awaited paramedics, who transported the back to a local hospital and then to LSU via helicopter.

While it initially appeared that Gipson might be able to regain motor functions –Farmerville Principal David Gray stated the injury that the school was holding out hope he would make a complete recovery — the teen’s condition deteriorated much in the days that followed, to the point that his family apparently began to realize on Sunday that he would not recover mental capabilities.

That’s when the Gipson family apparently decided to keep their son on life support long enough to prepare his body for organ donation. Once that process was complete on Monday, the Gipson family said its goodbyes and removed him from life support.

Summer and ME –

kids_and_school_bus

Well it is that time again and school is coming to a close! I am so GLAD to finally enjoy the summer time FOR ME……… I tell you…the last 8 years of my life has indeed been “interesting” to say the least!

Nonetheless, with my almost 11-year-old son – whew let me tell you…….with him being a boy and with all the up and down moods that he has experienced over the last 6 months – we BOTH need a mini vacation from one another….
image

To ME… now the summer time does NOT represent all the fun things that I will do with my son during the 3 MONTHS that he is out of school! Two years ago, I started my process called ME and I did not put it into action until last year.

The process has been a tad been rough because as a single mom you do soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for your kids that NORMALLY you always forget about yourself and what you need…dont need.. etc. Well before my son enters into High School, I wanted to start thinking of MYSELF and the things that I desired to start doing.

You hear the slogan saying Happy WIFE…Happy LIFE…Well let me take it a step further and deeper…. I say Happy Mother equals a Happy Child – because parenting is some SERIOUS BUSINESS…if you are in it for the long haul! LOL

As parents….mothers in particular…then ESPECIALLY single parents – it is indeed imperative that we not only FIND time but we MAKE time and TAKE time for ourselves and as my son is counting down the days that he will get out of school and until his birthday………
image

I am counting down the days that he will be away at camp!!!  so I can re- vamp – re -discover …re -build and re -grow the new and improved ME……

Mind…Body…Soul..Spirit… Just having a PIECE of freedom is priceless!
