Okay – I attend the movies at LEAST twice a week and  when there is ANY TYPE of historical movie that deals with this country via politics AND black history / civil rights …..I DASH him to the movie theater to view it. Okay I have had a tough day folks – My son even had to hug me a few times and hold my hands……….. History is important in general but for my son being an African American boy in these good ole United States, it is IMPERATIVE that he knows.

The more recent black history type movies that I have taken him to see were movies as –

The Help….( My son was very irritated when we were walking out of the movie theater )

The Butler.. ( My son had very mixed emotions & was trying to compare life now vs then via black men )

12 Years of Slave….( My son was in such SILENT SHOCK basically during the whole movie )

Nonetheless, seeing The Help allowed me to REMIND myself of why I act the way that I do in certain situations when I am around “certain types” of white women ………..  The Butler made me honor and respect black men even the more….and 12 Years A Slave …………Welp, – unfortunately for me – I am STILL trying to “get myself together” in the worse way – it is 9 pm at night and I took him to see this movie at 1 pm this afternoon! So please pray for my mind and my emotions….. God knows that I am soooooooo serious right now –

I mean – although sadly……blacks have been in slavery for a little over 400 years – it still made me think of the racism that still goes on today for blacks – ESPECIALLY black men –

It made me feel bad for stereotyping and racial profiling that I do even myself – however – although that those behaviors are indeed WRONG……but before I make myself out to be this bad black woman who discriminates against her own kind – I get upset because “my own kind” have to fight to not only get it together….BUT also keep it together…

Yes we can CLEARLY see that the white men and women years ago played the main blame in slavery BUT we are in 2013 and things are not the way that they used to be…MEANING – I do not like hearing that EVERYTHING “is the white man’s fault”… I have heard that since the late 80’s and I am wondering why I am STILL hearing it.  The white man did not STOP EVERYONE AND EVERY DREAM that the African American people have or may had.

We have to be honest and LOOK around and LOOK from within and ask ourselves…..are we helping each other get ahead? Sadly, there is only a very small number / percentage of African Americans who even care about the American Dream….let alone will fight to even achieve it.

Truth be told… I want to know how many are going to school…. caring about their grades instead of truancy behaviors………. are the favorite subjects in school gym time or science….are we becoming parents too young……if so are we good parents….are we pulling up our pants…are we selling stolen goods….are we being disrespectful to our parents and teachers……are we choosing to have a library card instead of a gun…… are we interested in studying medicine instead of selling medicine……

With all that Mr. Solomon Northup  (real name of the man who was MADE a slave) went through AFTER being a slave for 12 years – he lived the rest of his life fighting for change – he did not choose to be a murderer because he was dealt a wrong hand….he didn’t become a thief ..he didn’t become a womanizer because of the 12 years of no sex etc..etc.etc.. LIFE CAN HURT A LOT OF TIMES….. Life can really give you the choice to give up hope – but it is all about what you believe…. can things get better? Do not worry about when – just believe that they will. Thanking God for people like Brad Pitt ( the part that he played in the movie ) who UNDERSTOOD that slavery was wrong and he risked his own life to make a difference with the start of 1 MAN named Solomon Northup –

Uggghhh – the movie did and still has me a little ticked off but it is HISTORY….it is apart of MY HISTORY – I embrace it …will learn MORE from it….. and find ways to make things better for me – my family – my people.

Thanks for listening –

Politics

A FIRST!

Welp, I NEVER thought that a person other than an AFRICAN AMERICAN during the 20th century could share some feelings about real racism!  They say that there is a FIRST FOR EVERYTHING HUH!!! I am sure that I can speak for a “few black women and a WHOLE LOT OF Black men” and say… ” WELCOME TO OUR WORLD”

The new laws that passed in Arizona “allowing / permitting / pushing” the legal authorities to actually STOP Hispanic / Latino citizens in public if they look suspicious! I think that it is indeed HORRID behavior and now I guess people will NOW UNDERSTAND how the African community used to and still feels like. It is called RACISM and the police departments around the country found to be what “they considered” a nicer word of RACIAL PROFILING.  How in the world can that be considered less gripping than just being prejudice?

When they discussed legislation pertaining this bill and they had the NERVE to use the word “papers” for the Hispanic / Latino community, it made me think of the Jewish community and what they had to go through in Germany!

This country has GONE from land of the free and home of the brave…….to Land of who pays the most money to pass a bill to home of the people that want to deal with it or leave! People who have lived in this country and is working being a productive member of society has to get stopped out on a nice summer day with their family just because the police have the right to check their immigration status??

Sad thing about this whole thing is that there are some politicians who have hired illegal men to do their yardwork…. and the women to babysit their children because they knew that they could “get away with” paying them lower wages! This country makes even the best military man or woman tear up because they also see that they too arent treated respectfully – equally when they return home. BIG SIGH…

So so so so sad!!  Honestly… this election has left the  good ole’ American people no REAL choices for the next 4 years in this sad presidential election to come. It saddens me that not one Democratic Nominee dared to run against President Barack Obama! I know that it costs millions of dollars to run for a presidential election BUT to ONLY HAVE ONE CHOICE is sad. At least the Republicans had enough sense and strength to have at least 8 contenders!

I guess my blog is all over the place because my life and this country is all over the place!!!! Geesh.. can something be right?

Politics

Really?

Trust me…I am ALL for Marketing and Public Relations etc.. but I am wise enough to know that when I am doing more than “pushing the envelope”…… This was total disrespect for this company to even think that these TYPE of shoes would sell!

I said to myself wow – this is my favorite shoe company, track and running company, dress down clothes company… GEESH…

Thank goodness that they obtained TONS OF BACKLASH from more than half the African American basketball players in the NBA and the company of Adiddas has PULLED the shoes off the shelves and will no longer comtinue with production! All this negative impact because they are trying to chase that mighty dollar! I WONDER how the Jewish Community would feel if they made gas chambers and placed them in the Hamptons, high end area in New York City and called them “steam rooms” but placed the words ” For Jewish People Only”….. hmm…. Now you see where I am coming from!!!!!!!

Please do understand that I do know that for companies to try to even attempt to PUSH THE ENVELOPE is because they have done edgy things before……these shoes would have sold to a few kids due to their TOTAL IGNORANCE. To kids / teenagers they see the shoe as NEW AND INNOVATIVE but if someone called them a slave they may have flipped out. However, I would ask them why are they getting so upset when they are using STYLE to stay in bondage and wear shackles on their legs?

Mary – Mary sings….take the shackles off my feet so I can dance!…I just want to PRAISE HIM! This shoe was designed for the “urban culture” in mind! We can agree on that right?

The marketing and creative department needs to take a class on SENSITIVITY TRAINING – as soon as possible! Everything is political in this world because although by taking a huge RISK and making this shoe, they figured that since slavery happened years ago that this “would be” alright…..

NOPE! It is 2012 going on 2013 and it STILL IS NOT okay! I do not care if the maker of the shoe was black, white, asian, indian, creole etc..etc..etc.. they just did not totally think through this “big great idea” that they felt that they had! However, shame on the MARKETING REP’S for even giving the “go ahead” to produce the shoe and ship them to the shoe stores!
