There has been a show that I started watching called The Following. I first like any other show although it was on Season 2 and I felt that I was too behind to catch up, I thought that may be watching for recreational time would “suffice”. However after the 2nd episode, the Lord indeed showed me that it was for a purpose.
The show has a great story line because it is really based upon how a CULT in 2014 could happen – how it obtains its followers, how the leader manipulates existing followers to recruit new followers.
It comes on EST on Mondays at 9pm on FOX – with Kevin Bacon – there are certain parts that I would call my son Jared in to watch with me and as a scene would happen, I would quickly explain to him how it happened and what he should do in an instance like this etc.
From things happening at restaurants, bus stops and most importantly school settings – Which comes to the point of this blog post – On a scale from 1 to 10 my son’s current school district is considered an “7.75” and the next town over is a “8.5 ” so of course wanting my son to obtain a BETTER education I was pondering on a few things.
However, this morning in a “neighboring” school district that I have been contemplated moving into for the last year has had a tragic morning – I INDEED believe that this HORRIFIC incident that transpired was connected to the TV show, The Following – I am NOT saying that the high school student was apart of a cult but “spiritually speaking”…….. you have to watch just only one episode of the show in regards to what happened to see what I am saying.
My son acts as if ” FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL ” are no longer a big deal for him but that is NOT THE CASE! He tries to become super cool, especially with him going into 6th grade this year- Each parent does things differently but I try to plan!
Maybe is the first day of School in your child’s life ever. Maybe he or she is making a transition to middle school, or you just moved to a different neighborhood or a different city altogether.
Truth is this is a very important day. The way you help them deal with this first day will have an impact not only on the rest of the school year but also will let them know that they can trust you to help solve problems they may meet at their school all year round.
First find out if your school allowed you to have your own tour with your child. The couple of weeks before school starts, teachers start getting ready for the coming year and they also have meetings in the school premises.
The real first day start with a good breakfast, some kids get so nervous they cannot eat so simply offer something they cannot refuse, like their favorite cereal. Last but not least if they are taking the bus give them the big hug and kiss at home or if you are driving them before you get in the car. If they need a hug and or a kiss before they leave your side they would ask one.
You can NEVER be too careful, learn too much or know too much about the places of where your child will be – Keep in mind, it is the year 2013……things are indeed totally different from when YOU were in school – so be more focused!
I woke up today STILL thinking of this past weekend and the Funeral / Home – Going Service Celebration of my FIRST male example in ministry. Pastor Tim was a pastor that loves – not because God is in his heart but because he is in the heart of God.
His thoughts, actions and messages to the congregation always come from the heart of God. He was a great man that really is driven by his passion for God and his vision for God’s vision. Pastor Tim worked tirelessly in ministry and I have never seen him give any less prayer, time and energy to someone else’s vision than he did to his own. Even though he was a pastor, he was an extraordinary servant and an even more exemplary as a worshipper. He consistently encouraged us to become worshippers of God more than anything, regardless of our age.
He was concerned about the whole person and his lifestyle is one that can be mimicked in the church, at home or at work. He was a proud husband and father and goes to great lengths to protect his family sometimes praying over them all night long. Always instructing them in how to hear God; draw near to God; honor God; give God all!
He was especially special to me on a personal note because he trained my mother to a place in God where I was actually able to see who God really was and what He can do. She was MY EXAMPLE because he became HER EXAMPLE.
Everyone who walked into the doors of Christian Temple was actually able to start fresh in the kingdom. It was life changing for me. And that’s what Pastor Tim did for many of us–change lives!
Pastor Tim was a father figure to many and I will deeply miss him….
I am happy to have such a great rapport with all of my son’s teachers…. I mean from the time he entered into Pre -K, I was apart of EVERY little event that they had for him. However, with him being basically almost in middle school ( yikes ) It is weird because “IN THE BEGINNING” my son could not stand to look at her which I found it rather odd….. She was very strick and stern as a TEACHER as I am as a PARENT so he should not have been shocked by the way that she ran her classroom!
Nonetheless, now he surely adores her! I did not have the heart to tell him that her last day will be sooner than later and he does not even know! It is great when your kids run into teachers that show that they care…..then of course when the teachers or the kids move on – it is a little sad. Shout out to all of the teachers across America who puts genuine time and effort into their students!
My son is just so so smart and I am glad! Whew – Although I am very elated that my son had all A’s a few B’s and 1 C – I STILL wanted to choke him!
Ugghhh why do little boys like to monkey around in class, why do they talk too much and cant stop, why do they chuckle and think that everything is just so funny as the teacher walks on by?
Yeah I may be smiling but I have practiced my facial expression to STILL SMILE so that I dont end up choking my son! More things to work on via cutting up – because I do not tolerate and deal with that CORNY and excuse of ” Boys Will Be Boys ” Syndrome……
I feel when you know better, you do better and my Lord does my son KNOW BETTER…..So he better get his act together or he will take it on the road! Mess around with me and he will be on punishment until he enters middle school >>>>>> I AM SO SERIOUS….. ( at least somewhat at least ) I went to the Parent Teacher Conference with a smile on my face and left the conference with my face and cheeks hanging low – I am officially disappointed!
